Pulsacoil A Class Thermal Storage.
The Pulsacoil A Class provides hot water in a home or flat. It is a high specification thermal storage system which will give all users many benefits. Easy to operate and exceptionally efficient. The Pulsacoil A Class thermal store is very different to any other water heating system in the marketplace. Please read the information below to find out more about the Pulsacoil A Class sytem.
Pulsacoil A Class Operating Characteristics.
The water that comes out of a hot water tap is not stored inside the Pulsacoil A Class. Hot is produced instantaneously. When “instantaneously” is mentioned, we do not mean like an electric shower. Also when we say “not stored” we mean the hot water inside the system is not the same water coming out of the hot water taps. Hot water that comes direct from the cylinder are traditional hot water systems. The Pulsacoil A Class is not a traditional hot water system.
The main advantage of a Pulsacoil A Class system is that it reduces the risk of contamination from things such as Legionella. Click here to read more about Legionella. The Pulsacoil A Class does this by transferring the stored heat across through the plated heat exchanger to the mains water feed. In most other types of water heaters which store hot water and the same hot water exits the hot water taps. The hot water in traditional systems should not drop below 50°C for safety reasons. Another advantage that the Pulsacoil A Class system gives is that it reduces the chances of scalding. This is done by allowing the temperature of the hot water at the tap to be controlled at about 52°C. This then causes a slight disadvantage. This is that the water takes a little time to stabilise in temperature when a hot water tap is opened. This is usually 45 seconds. It sometimes but rarely takes longer. If the temperature fluctuates, the sensors maybe faulty inside the Pulsacoil A Class.
Also the Pulsacoil A Class has been designed to prevent both on-peak and the off-peak supply to come on at the same time. This prevents the system from consuming more electricity then required. You should never be able to use the on and off peak together inside a Pulsacoil A Class unlike the Pulsacoil 1,2,3, 2000 and BP. It also prevents overheating and inconstant temperature detection.

Great Pressure Hot Water From The Pulsacoil A Class.
The Pulsacoil A Class system has been designed to provide all the hot water you are likely to use under normal circumstances. It delivers hot water at the same pressure as your cold water pressure. With the Pulsacoil A Class system you can enjoy the same powerful mains pressure at your tap or shower. You will not need a separate pump to achieve this . This also means you can fill your bath with hot water in minutes reducing the waiting time and loss of heat.
When we say “all the hot water you are likely to need under normal circumstances” this is dependent on the Gledhill Pulsacoil A Class storage tank size. It also depends on the number of individuals using the system. If an undersized system is installed, this will not give you all the hot water you are likely to need. Pulsacoil A Class Operates Efficiently.
The Pulsacoil A Class system will ensure that the energy it needs is minimised. This avoid costly use of electricity by taking advantage of off-peak tariff. It also does not allow the on-peak tariff to power the top element at the same time. As mentioned before.
Hot Water To Tap That Doesn’t Deteriorated In The Pulsacoil A Class Store Tank.
The Pulsacoil A Class is connected directly to the cold mains water supply and therefore even the hot water supply is pure high quality water each time you use it. With other standard systems which have a cold water supply cistern in the roof space, there is always the chance that the tank can become contaminated by dust, birds and (or) insects. This could lead legionnaire. As mentioned before.
Common Faults With The Pulsacoil A Class.
The information below could help if you are experiencing faults with your system. Please read the information carefully. If you need us to send an engineer to you, please call.
The most common fault we have come across with the Pulsacoil A Class is the Off Peak contactor. This specific contactor is not sold by us as it tends to burn. The burning of this contactor can cause a fire and in some cases has. It can also damage the PCB in a Pulsacoil A Class. Instead we recommend it be replaced with a Relay Retro Kit. A picture of the old contactor is below. Please also note it could damage cables inside the system.
If you do have the old contactor inside your Pulsacoil A Class, we would recommend you replace it. It could cause more damages and work out to be much more expensive.
We have come across situations where the Pulsacoil A Class system is overheats. This most likely will be one of four reasons. Each reason is unique, so please read carefully.
The contactor inside the Pulsacoil A Class is burning. This will cause the contactor to stick in the on position even when not needed. This most likely will be the off peak contactor.
The overheat sensor inside the Pulsacoil A Class has failed. When the Pulsacoil A Class reaches a certain temperature it switches off the contactors. If the sensor has failed it will still think it needs heating. This then causes the water in the cylinder to boil. The steam released will damage walls and doors. Please keep an eye out for this as its not obvious all the time.
The immersion elements have been bypassed inside the Pulsacoil A Class. This sounds unlikely but we have come across this situation. On some visits we have found that another company is unable to establish the fault. So what they do is bypass the contact which is controlled by the PCB. This leaves a permanent supply onto the element. They then reduce the time on the timer.
This is very dangerous. If you believe this has been done call us immediately. We would recommend you switch the system off.
This reason is very unlikely but does occur. The PCB that is the brain of the Pulsacoil A Class may have just become faulty. If this is the case have it replaced. Before having it replace, check the settings are on A3. A qualified Pulsacoil A Class engineer will know how to check the PCB setting.
Inconsistent Hot Water.
Check the header tank above the Pulsacoil A Class is filled. This is overlooked many times. If it is not, there will not be sufficient water being pumped around the plate heat exchanger. Insufficient water could also damage the pump and element inside the system. This may also show an overheating fault.
Din Rail Assembly Damaged
The live or neutral wire in the din rail could burn. This would then not allow the system to turn on. It may in some case not allow the off peak to work overnight. It should be addressed as soon as possible as further damages can be caused by it. Below is a picture of a Din Rail Assembly inside a Pulsacoil A Class system. Please look carefully.
If the Din Rail Assembly inside your Pulsacoil A Class is damaged like the above, it will need repairing. You could also have this component replaced.

When Not To Fix It.
That’s right. When not to have your Pulsacoil A Class system fixed. Some customers have certain repairs carried out which should have never been done. Please keep reading to find out more.
If the cylinders leaking replace it. It cannot be repaired. It’s impossible to repair a leaking cylinder. It’s not impossible but will cost more to do. This is what we call beyond economical repair.
This situation can even be dangerous and could cause a flood. In more serious cases an injury could occur.
Check the pictures below. These will give examples of leaking cylinders.
The picture above show signs over water leaking inside the Pulsacoil A Class. You will notice it on the floor as a brown patch.
The above picture show calcium stains inside the Pulsacoil A Class. This is a slower leak that pushes through the foam.

Pulsacoil A Class header tank. Make sure it is closed. The below picture is what not to do.
The lid doesn’t close. This will cause the header tank water level to drop. It could also cause damage to the wall and doors. This is due to some steam being released by the Pulsacoil A Class.
Also make sure the element is correct. These element don’t require a thermostat rod. They shouldn’t be leaking either. Check the pictures below.
A leaking element mixed with electricity can be dangerous. If your element inside your Pulsacoil A Class is leaking replace it.
This causes the Pulsacoil A Class system not to work correctly. What is even worse is that the person who installed it did not know this is wrong. You could also the be a copper element inside the Pulsacoil A Class system and not know till it is to late. A thermal store of this type is recommended to have an incoloy element. Standard copper elements will fail and leak quicker.
Also if the temperature setting in the element thermostat rod is lower the 70oC, the Pulsacoil A Class system will not work correctly. Please have this replaced if that is the case.
